Creator discovery guide
How to find influencers for your brand
The best creator search begins with a business result and a customer—not a follower leaderboard. Use this process to define fit, search with useful boundaries, evaluate candidates, and build a shortlist you can explain.

The short answer
Define one campaign result and the audience behind it. Turn that into a creator brief, search the platforms where that audience pays attention, compare relevance and available performance context, then contact a small qualified shortlist with a clear offer.
Step 1
Start with the result—not the creator list
A search for “good influencers” has no useful finish line. A search for creators who can introduce a specific product to a specific customer does. Decide whether the campaign is meant to create awareness, reusable content, site visits, qualified leads, affiliate sales, or direct conversions before deciding who belongs on the list.
Write the audience in plain language: where they live, what problem or interest brings them together, which platform they use for this kind of content, and what would make a creator credible to them. This becomes the standard every candidate has to meet.
Use this checklist
- One primary campaign outcome
- A specific audience or customer segment
- The product, offer, or message the creator would introduce
- A measurable signal you can review after the campaign
Step 2
Choose platforms based on the content your customer wants
YouTube can be valuable when the purchase needs explanation, demonstration, comparison, or long-lived search traffic. Instagram is useful for visual storytelling, product context, Reels, Stories, and community interaction. TikTok can fit fast demonstrations, entertainment-led discovery, trends, and niche communities. These are planning cues, not rigid rules.
If the audience genuinely spans platforms, search all three—but keep the content expectation platform-specific. A creator who is a strong fit on one platform is not automatically the same fit everywhere else.
Step 3
Turn the customer into a searchable creator brief
Describe the creator type, niche, geography, language, and follower range that matter. Add concrete exclusions when they are essential. Avoid stacking soft preferences until no real person could qualify.
In CollabBase, enter the brief in natural language and confirm the structured filters before searching. The search can use YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok plus niche, geography, language, and follower boundaries. Results are pulled first from CollabBase's own creator database, then from across the web, and search depth—which comes with your plan—controls how long the system keeps searching for your request. No search can guarantee a particular creator or result count.
Step 4
Evaluate fit in the order that protects your budget
First ask whether the creator actually makes content related to the customer and product. Then inspect tone, values, format, recent work, audience size, average views or engagement when available, location, and prior brand context. Finally, confirm that there is a usable contact path.
Treat every metric as context rather than certification. Platform data can be incomplete or change over time. Ownership verification means a creator proved control of a supported account; it does not certify every audience member, metric, or contact point.
Relevance
Would this content feel natural to the creator's existing audience?
Audience context
Does the available size, location, language, and topic context support the campaign?
Content quality
Can the creator communicate the product idea in a format people will choose to watch?
Reachability
Is there an appropriate email, social profile, or eligible CollabBase conversation path?
Steps 5 and 6
Build a defensible shortlist, then make a clear offer
Save only creators you can explain in one sentence: why this person, for this audience, for this campaign. Add notes about the angle, risk, and next action. A smaller qualified list is easier to personalize and learn from than a large list built for volume.
When you reach out, identify the brand, explain the fit, outline the campaign and expected work, state the compensation model, and ask one clear question. When Gmail inbox sync is enabled, supported replies to email threads created through CollabBase stay with the campaign; replies in eligible CollabBase conversations do too. Instagram and TikTok DMs and responses remain manual.
After the campaign
Measure the result you chose at the beginning
Record posted URLs and the outcome data you can support. That might be views and engagement for awareness, approved content assets for production value, tagged visits for traffic, codes or tracked links for sales, or qualified replies for relationship development.
CollabBase can organize posted work. With paid Early Access Beta, which is included with Pro, it can also organize user-supplied campaign costs and performance. It does not create attribution that the underlying links, platforms, or commerce systems do not provide. Use the evidence to decide what to repeat, change, or stop.
